Lime Manufacturing techniques perfected through Tosa's climate

The Lime Manufacturing and Sales Department is our founding business.

Since our founding in 1894, we have mined limestone in Inabu, Nankoku City, Kochi Prefecture. Using our unique firing method of traditional Tokkuri-shaped (pear-shaped) underground kilns dating back to the Edo period, we created “salt-fired lime” and “Tosa Shikkui-Plaster,” which have become local industrial products of Kochi Prefecture.

Using high-quality limestone sourced from the mines of Kochi, we manufacture various lime products and Shikkui-plaster to be delivered throughout Japan. Currently, we are the sole manufacturer of “Tosa Shikkui-Plaster" which is made through traditional methods.

of Our Lime Products

Kochi Prefecture is blessed with abundant deposits of high-quality limestone. Crafted from this premium raw material using time-honored techniques, our lime products possess the following key characteristics:

There are no volcanoes in Kochi Prefecture, where the limestone is sourced. This allows for limestone with less impurities compared to those found in other prefectures with volcanoes.
High whiteness level due to low level of impurities
Use of a salt-burning method using a Tokkuri-shaped underground kiln produces large lime crystals suited for use in building and construction materials

Due to these characteristics, our lime products are highly sought after in various fields for food and industrial applications where demands for purity and safety are highly required. Our lime products are also used in traditional building materials which require high whiteness and durability.

Lime and plaster for construction

In recent years, “eco-friendly and people-friendly construction” has grown in demand with an emphasis on using natural and renewable resources.

Our building material-grade limestone and plaster have been highly regarded for their high purity and suitability to construction material. As such, these materials have been used in countless traditional buildings including Japan’s national treasure, Himeji Castle.

Lime for food additives

Our food-grade lime comes from Kochi Prefecture’s highest-quality limestone and is produced using a traditional “Tosa salt-firing method” which ensures it meets the highest purity, safety, and reliability standards required for food application.

Most notable is its application as a binding-agent for konnyaku production and is used not only in Japan but also by konnyaku producers overseas.

Industrial lime business

Starting with our quicklime and slaked lime which satisfy JIS standards, we are able to accommodate to the needs and specifications of our customers.

Agricultural & livestock lime

Our lime product can be used safely in fertilizers and pesticides for agricultural production. It is also used for bird-flu prevention.
